The Peace Message of the World’s Children Will Rise from Istanbul

“Perhaps music will save the world” — Istanbul, the world’s culture capital that holds an important place on a global scale by blending its rich history and culture with contemporary economic dynamism, is hosting the 12th European Suzuki Children’s Convention, where around 1000 child musicians of different age groups from 29 countries around the world will come together.

Istanbul is hosting this year’s European Suzuki Children’s Convention, held every four years in a different country by the European Suzuki Association. Nearly a thousand child musicians from 29 countries — from Africa to the Americas, from Europe to Asia — will come together in Istanbul within the scope of the 12th European Suzuki Children’s Convention and, with the words “Perhaps music will save the world,” will give a universal message of peace to the whole world with their notes from the Atatürk Cultural Center.

The 12th European Suzuki Children’s Convention will be held between 3-7 April 2026 at the Atatürk Cultural Center in Istanbul. Children from different countries of the world, together with their families and instructors, will meet around the universal language of music.

Supported by the European Suzuki Association (ESA) and organized by its Türkiye section, the Suzuki Music Education Association (SMED), the event will be attended by students trained with the Suzuki music education approach.

The main sponsorship of the organization, to be held with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Türkiye, is undertaken by Dünya Katılım Bank — Türkiye’s only private, domestically-capitalized participation bank with branches — one of Ahlatcı Holding’s subsidiaries, which never withholds its support from young talents and is always by the side of artists and craftspeople. The bank positions itself at the event as the “Future Generation Partner” and conveys the message “Future in Tune.”

Throughout the five-day event, in 168 sessions across 22 different halls, nearly a thousand child musicians aged between 0 and 18 will take part in group lessons in 7 different categories — violin, viola, piano, cello, flute, guitar and SECE — with 30 different expert instructors, perform in orchestras and gain stage experience with live performances.

World-renowned conductor Gürer Aykal, who led the Presidential Symphony Orchestra for 25 years, will share his experiences with the young musicians as the event’s Guest of Honor. One of the highlights of the event will be the “Suzuki Gala Concert” on the final day, in which all participating children will be on stage at the same time.

About the Suzuki Philosophy and Educational Methodology

Just as a child learns to speak by hearing, repeating and in a loving environment, the Suzuki Method carries this same natural process into music. In this way, children experience the note not as a starting point but as a tool that comes after internalizing the music. Developed by Dr. Shinichi Suzuki, who wholeheartedly believed that music is a powerful language that deepens and enriches children’s lives, this approach shapes children’s musical development by taking inspiration from their native-language learning process. Today the Suzuki approach thrives with more than 8,000 instructors and over 250,000 students in more than 40 countries.
